The markets made significant gains on Wednesday morning with Sensex opening 658 points higher and Nifty seeing over 200 points rise.
According to the morning trade data, Sensex was trading at 77,446 at around 9:20 am, seeing a rise of 680 points, while the Nifty was trading at 24,177, 191 points higher. The Sensex opened at 77,423, up by 658 points.
Tata Capital was up 5.5% in the early trade. Among the benchmark equity, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and HCL Tech were among the major gainers. 8 of the 30 Sensex stocks were trading in the red, including InterGlobe Aviation, Bharat Electronics, Power Grid and Axis Bank.
The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 755.33 crore in the previous trade, according to exchange data. Wednesday’s rise was attributed to buying in IT sector. The IT index rose 2.8% today.
On Tuesday, the Sensex dipped 69.86 points to settle at 76,765.92, while the Nifty slipped 10.60 points to end at 23,985.35.
The rupee too gained by 5 paise reaching 95.77 against the US dollar in early trade. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 95.70 and slipped to 95.77 against the greenback, registering a gain of 5 paise from its previous close, PTI reported. On Tuesday, the rupee settled 17 paise higher at 95.82 against the US dollar.
